Dear Valentine

a reblog from 2013 🙂  Happy Valentine’s Day!

Dear Valentine

Dear Valentine,

I’ve lost count of our Valentine’s Days together,
Not that it feels like so many; it’s just that I’d rather
keep looking forward than back.

“I Love You” – and I can only show you that
by continuing to take care, as best I can, of you and me.

You already know my heart was running on batteries
before you. I didn’t always wear love and I guess
my heart was something of an antique, collecting
layers upon layers of dust.

But you restored and refinished it, covered it
with all that was lost to it before.
And while the years have left us with a few
dings and scratches, we’re still here
mending hearts  on our journey.

We are a Valentine, you and me…
the kind that seldom  happens –
but has.
